چکیده
The primordial abundance of long-lived heavy Majorana neutrinos is calculated from the full Boltzmann equation. Inclusion of scattering reactions drastically change the predicted abundance of a heavy neutrino species. This loosens the well known mass constraint on MeV neutrinos from Big Bang nucleosynthesis, and allows for the existence of a Majorana τ neutrino with mass mντ ≥ 11 MeV. Further experimental efforts are therefore needed to investigate the range 11MeV ≤ mντ ≤ 24MeV. Some interesting cosmological consequences of an MeV ντ are also pointed out. 98.80.Ft, 14.60.Pq, 26.35.+c Physical Review Letters (in press) Typeset using REVTEX

A quantisation of chiral symmetry within the Skyrme crystal is carried out. The definition of global isospin in the crystal is explored, and found to be ambiguous. However, the state corresponding to a neutron crystal is identified, and the leading quantum correction to the classical mass is computed. The results are compared to those of Klebanov for a crystal of whole skyrmions.

Sufficient conditions for the relation tanβ ≃ m t /m b to hold in supersym-metric grand unified theories are formulated. Essential ingredients are the SU(2) R gauge symmetry and a discrete matter parity. The applicability of our conditions is illustrated by specific examples. Implications for neutrino masses are discussed.

Primordial nucleosynthesis constrains the properties of light, stable neutrinos. Apart from the well–known limit on the number of neutrino species, there are also bounds on neutrino masses and magnetic moments. I discuss also sterile neutrinos and neutrino propagation in a primordial magnetic field, such as could be the origin of the observed galactic magnetic fields.
